Currently, the name of our school is Udoka (St. Patrick’s) Nursery and Primary School, Awka and it is situated within Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. “Udoka” is an Igbo name that means “Peace is better” and “St. Patrick’s” in bracket points to its patronal saint, St. Patrick, and reminiscences the original name of the school. The school is 3 kilometers from the Local Government Headquarters and 1.5 kilometers from the nearest public school. Our school is graded as a public school owned by the Catholic Diocese of Awka. It is public because it is open for admission to children from various denominations and families of different economic statuses. Being a public school, it is available to provide quality education to children of the poor and rich alike with very meager school fees. The meager school fees in addition to quality education could be the catalyst behind a population slightly above five hundred, six classes with twenty-nine streams and thirty-one teachers (one male and thirty female teachers). That notwithstanding, we can categorically assert that the school's high educational standard and strategic plan have enabled many of our pupils to excel in inter-school and national quiz competitions and still warm up for more laurels.
