Udoka Nursery and Primary school, Awka has a proud and storied heritage that goes back more than 100 years. The historical records of Catholic missionary enterprise in Awka town are replete with evidences to prove that what today stands as “Udoka Nursery and Primary School, Awka” was originally founded as St. Patrick’s school by the early Holy Ghost missionaries of Awka-Orlu uplands, Fr. Albert Bubendorff and companions. The chronicles of Catholic mission in Awka have it that Fr. Bubendorff who at that time resident at Adazi parish championed the evangelization of the town in 1917. With this endeavor towards evangelization, Awka town was reckoned as one of the 107 stations of Adazi parish, and with the assistance of a catechist-teacher, Felix Udeme from Osomari, the missionary priest laid the foundations of St. Patrick’s mission in Awka beginning at Udo bush near Agu-Awka and later at its present premises at Umuzocha village of Awka (1926).
